James “Jim” Finley, age 75, of Marion, North Carolina, departed to be with the Lord on the evening of Monday, September 16, 2019 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville. His loving family was by his side. A native of McDowell County, North Carolina, he was born on July 25, 1944 and was the son of the late John Taylor Finley, Georgia Mayfield Finley, and grandchild Lily Stancato.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Brenda W. Finley; his two children, Felicia Finley-Stancato and Jamie C. Finley, Jr.; his three grandchildren, ‘Jet’ James Finley III, Georgia Finley, Julian ‘Tiger’ Finley, and brother Charlie Franklin Finley, of Concord, North Carolina.
He served his country in Korea as 1LT FA USA, a deacon in his church from 24 years old; and ran the ports of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Gulfport, Mississippi with P&O Ports for 35 years, and also during Hurricane Katrina.
James ‘Jim’ Finley should be remembered as a great patriarch and husband. His loss is great for many because he led by example through loving the Lord.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Marion with Rev. Dr. M. Scott Hagaman, Rev. Dean Owenby and Rev. Grace Calhoun officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the United States Army, will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at First Baptist Church of Marion.
