James " Jim" Cook

Jim Cook, age 73 of Marion, North Carolina passed away peacefully at his house Thursday morning. He is survived by his wife, Lisa, his daughter Amanda and his son Calvin (Christine). He was GrandPa Jim to Charlie, Henry, and Lillian.

Jim was born in Rockville Center, New York and moved around the Northeast. He graduated from the University of Arizona with Bachelors in Geology and the Southern University of New York at Binghamton with a Masters in Geo Chemistry. Jim was in the US Army 1969-1972.

Jim worked at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina until his retirement, when he and his wife moved to McDowell County.

Jim was active with the Sons of the American Revolution in both South Carolina and North Carolina. He was active with the AARP Tax Service at the McDowell Senior Center since he moved to McDowell County. He was also active in the Martha Simmons Food Pantry at St. John’s Episcopal Church.

The family will hold a private ceremony.
