James C. Grier, age 71, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville. A native of Gaston County, North Carolina, born December 18, 1945, James was raised by his grandparents, Solomon and Cenia Grier.
Affectionately known as “Grumpy”, James, during his life, overcame many disabilities, but he enjoyed music, the Andy Griffith Show and was an avid collector of cans. He loved to drink Diet Pepsi and spending time with his dogs. All that knew James, loved and will truly miss him.
He is survived by his caregivers, who were his family, Tim and Donna Cable, their children, Jonathan Cable (Beth) and Dawn Buchanan (Eugene); his “babies”, Riley and Raylyn Cable; and Deven and Cheyenne Buchanan. James is also survived by his work family, Buzz Campbell, Cassie Smith, Ric Luther, Ric Zehr, Kyle Whorten, Alex Foster and Reggie Vickers; and many other staff members at Mountain Area Community Services.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, April 05, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Jonathan Cable officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
