James Henry Gibson, Sr., 74, of Marion, passed away Friday, September 13, 2024, at his residence.
James was born in McDowell County, NC on March 5, 1950, to William Silvers and Verties Ellen Gibson. He was married to his wife of 29 years, Denise Kay Rumfelt Gibson and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Nebo. He was a hard worker who provided for his family. For over 30 years, he was the owner and operator of Gibson and Son Siding. For several years, James was a vendor at flea markets. James loved cats and was known for his sense of humor. Most of all, he was a loving husband and father who will always be remembered.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Silvers; his mother, Verties Metcalf; a brother, Thomas Randy Gibson; and two infant brothers.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Denise Gibson; five children, Tonya Lindsay, Sonya Lail, James “Bumper” Gibson, Jr., Crystal Richardson, and Kimberly Elmore; two step children, Brandon Ray Lowery and Chris Lowery; four sisters, Doris Rhom (Wayne), Elizabeth Harris (Freddie), Lois Mace (Tim), and Barbara Shelton; a brother in law, Keith Rumfelt; seven grandchildren; a great grandson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 16, 2024, at the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. Rev. Brian Gentry will officiate. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
