James Daniel Effler went home to be with the Lord at his residence on Saturday, July 8, 2017. James was born in Yancey County on June 17, 1927 to the late George and Florence Effler.
James loved working with wood, gardening and working outside. James served in the United States Navy. James also retired from the textile and finishing industry. James will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Jean McCormick Effler; his son, Keith Effler; and two sisters, Angeline Hensley and Frances Davis.
Surviving James are his wife of twenty-four years, Carolyn Prater Effler; daughter, Tabitha Price of the home; three sons, Mitchell Effler, Dwight Effler (Genell) and Bobby Effler; three step-children, Teresa Griffin, Tina Keith and Charles Hefler. Also surviving James are his brothers, Frank Effler (Yvonne), Paul Effler (Ann); five sisters, Freda VanSteenberg (Tom), Elaine Lankford (Stoy), Jewell King, Viola Craig (Esten) and Wanda McKinney (Wayne); twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 10, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service Chapel. A funeral service honoring the life of James will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 11:00 at the funeral home with Reverend Vincent White officiating. Interment will take place following the service at West Court Baptist Church cemetery.
