James Donald Elliott, age 73, of the Glenwood Community, while surrounded by his family, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, March 25, 2019. A native of McDowell County, North Carolina, born September 12, 1945, he was the son of the late Jack and Rena Elliott.
He was preceded in death by, in addition to his parents, one son, Jack James Elliott and one brother, Harold Elliott.
James, who had a great sense of humor, enjoyed spending time with his family, farming, logging, and spending time on Goose Creek. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
James is survived by his wife, Nancy Elliott, two daughters, Patty Elliott Bristol (Jeff) and Diana Elliott Laughter (Chad); five grandchildren, Jessica Elliott, Tanner McKinney, who was his “buddy”, Kayla Woody (Anthony), Joel McCall and Matt Laughter (Bailey); three great grandsons, Tucker and Barrett Woody and Bently Laughter; one great-granddaughter, Izzy and one on the way; siblings, Julia Hensley, who was his oldest sister and best friend, Jackie Elliott (Wanda), Kermit Elliott and Linda Hensley; a number of nieces and nephews; and his special canine, Petey. James was also blessed with a second family, Lisa Patton and her children, Josh Patton and Ellen Patton (Joseph); and grandson, Cooper Thomas Patton.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
