James Ernest Brewer

James Ernest Brewer, age 68, of Marion, North Carolina passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 30, 2018 at his home.

Ernest was born January 14, 1950 in McDowell County, NC to Inez Harding Brewer of Marion and to the late James Donald Brewer.  He was a member of Fairview Free Will Baptist Church.  He worked in textiles for over 22 years and after his retirement he worked as a custodian for West Marion Elementary for 7 years.  Ernest was a wonderful man with a loving personality.  He never met a stranger and would do anything in the world for others.  He was very outgoing and liked to stay busy.  He was a hard worker and worked all of his life.  Ernest will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his father, he is also preceded in death by his son, James Allen Brewer in 2012.  Ernest’s family believes that his death was due to his heart being broken by the loss of his son.  Also preceding in death are two brothers, Harold Brewer and Danny Ray Brewer and one sister, Geraldine Harvey.

In addition to his mother, those left behind to cherish Ernest’s memories are his beloved wife of 51 years, Carolyn Thomas Brewer; one son, Jeffery Scott Brewer (Tina Marie); two grandchildren, Misty Wheeler  (Andrew) and Chrissy Cox (Brandon); one step-granddaughter, Cassandra Hicks; four great-grandchildren, Jaicee Cox, Konner Cox, Aubrie Higdon and Cooper Wheeler; one sister, Kathy Wehrheim; two sisters-in-law, Cheryl Brewer and Becky Brewer; one brother-in-law, Gary Harvey; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Beam Funeral Service.  A funeral service to celebrate Ernest’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Fairview Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Brandon Smith, Rev. Wayne Miller and Danny Forbes officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
