Jacqueline Lee Cannon Hughes

Jacqueline Lee Cannon Hughes, a cherished member of our community, was born on June 3, 1946, in Mitchell County. She departed this life on April 18, 2025, at the Watauga Medical Center, leaving behind a legacy of love, artistry, and devotion.

Jacqueline was a vibrant soul who loved her family dearly. She was blessed with two loving children, a son, Sandy Hughes (Mandy), and daughter, who preceded her in death, Misty Leigh Hughes. She delighted in her role as a grandmother to her grandchildren: Eden Hughes (Aaron Cox), Evan Jones, and Sierra Houston (Jeff). Her heart swelled with pride as she embraced her great-grandchildren, Riley, Connor, and Liana Houston. She found joy and fulfillment in the bonds she nurtured with each of her family members, who will carry her spirit forward. Her precious dog Kenzie brought much love and joy to her life.

Jacqueline was a dedicated member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Spruce Pine, where she cultivated friendships and shared her passion for music. A talented singer, she often shared her gift through her participation in a quartet, uplifting the hearts of those around her. In addition to her musical talents, Jacqueline was known for her artistic abilities, creating works that reflected her vibrant spirit. She also had a zest for travel, embracing new experiences and cultures with enthusiasm.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry Sanford Hughes, her mother, Cora Lee Pittman Burleson. Their memories will be cherished in the hearts of those who loved them.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a memorial service from 4:00 PM at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, located at 86 State Road 1101, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.

Jacqueline Lee Cannon Hughes will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives she touched. Her legacy of love and creativity will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends as they remember her with deep affection and gratitude.
