Jack Daniel Ledford

October 27, 1939 — February 5, 2018

On February 5, 2018, Jack “Daniel” Ledford flew for the first time. He always commented “if God had intended for him to fly, he would have given him wings,” and he has received his wings. Daniel was a native of McDowell County and was born on October 27, 1939 to the late Lester and Polly Turner Ledford.

He was a true outdoorsman that loved working bees, gardening, logging, coon hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with family especially over a meal. He had comparisons for his daughters : Joann, “(Jodie) the fixer”, Carolyn “most like mama” and Edna “the baby”.

Left to cherish Daniel’s memory are three children, Joann Spaleta (Jack) of Charlotte, Carolyn Slaughter (Jerry), of Asheville and Edna Jane Bickett (Joe) of Richmond, Virginia. Also surviving Daniel are eight grandchildren, Jessica Spaleta, Jordan Slaughter, Cayla Slaughter, Jessica Bickett, Nathan Bickett, Daniel Bickett, Addison Slaughter and Jeff Spaleta; and a number of nieces and nephews.
