Ida Elizabeth “Lib” Creson, age 91, of Marion, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at her home with her loving family by her side. A native of Apex, North Carolina, Elizabeth was born on June 30, 1927 to the late James and Elizabeth Collins Godwin.
As a young girl Elizabeth grew up in Florida. Her next step in life was to move to Portsmouth, Virginia to live with her older sister. As a teenager she worked at the naval shipyard in Newport News where she met and fell in love with Daniel Creson.
In February of 1948 they were married and later had three children. When they moved to Marion, North Carolina she became a member of the order of Eastern Star, Chapter 278 of Marion. In her later years she went back to school and earned her GED and graduated with honors from McDowell Technical Institute in Cosmetology in September 1978.
Elizabeth was a longtime member of Clinchfield Baptist Church and at one time worked for the daycare center. She was a loving mother and grandmother, she will be missed greatly by her family. Left to cherish her memories are her three children, Wayne Creson (Louise), Debbie C. Kimbel (William “Bill”) and Richard Creson (Tammy). Also surviving Elizabeth are her six grandchildren, Melanie Ledford, Dr. Jason William Kimbel, Dereck Creson, D.J. Creson, Dillon Creson and Devan Ray and three great-grandchildren, Skylar Kimbel, Morgan Kimbel and Lily Ray; and special friend, Alvin Henson.
A funeral service to celebrate Elizabeth’s life will take place on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Beam Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Terry Roach officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at McDowell Memorial Park.
