Hydrick (Hy) Walker Cauthen, Jr., age 87, walked into the arms of Jesus in the early morning on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Rosehill Retirement in Marion, NC. Hy was born January 23, 1930 in Atlanta, GA to the late Hydrick Walker Cauthen, Sr. and Lillian Longdin Cauthen.
Hy married the love of his life, Martha L. Cauthen on January 25, 1975 in Tampa, Fl. Hy and Martha, along with three of their children moved to Marion, NC in 1979. Hy and Martha settled in on a farm in Old Fort, where they raised and showed prize goats for many years. They owned and operated Marion Packing Company for a few years before opening M&H Marketing in the same building. They retired and sold the business in 2006. They also owned Fast Print on Main Street in Marion for several years.
Hy was very active member of the community and was always a strong proponent for “buying locally”. He was a member of Gideon International, Mystic Tie Lodge, Oasis Shriners and Marion Civitan. Martha and he both volunteered with Hospice for many years. Hy was an active member of Story Memorial PCA Church.
In addition to Martha, his wife of 42 years, Hy, is survived by seven children. In North Carolina, Deb Ishikura (Darryl) of Old Fort, Cindy Byas (Gary) of Old Fort, Mark Cauthen (Laura) of Marion, Eric Cauthen (Kim), all of Old Fort; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Dustin, Garrett, Heather, Andrew, Derek, Melody, Madison and five great-grandchildren, Tuie, Ella, Shyla, Ivy and Fern.
In Florida, two sons, David Cauthen, Billy Cauthen; a daughter, Cindy Giokas (Lou) as well as several more grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Hy’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 29th at Story Memorial PCA Church with Pastor Matt Stevens officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
