Hubert James Hensley “Jim”, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, departed to be with the Lord following a courageous battle with cancer on the morning of Friday, June 28, 2019 while at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville. His loving family was by his side. The son of the late Hubert Glaze and Mabel Renfro Hensley, he was born in McDowell County, North Carolina on May 8, 1942.
A lifelong fan of the Washington Redskins, Jim was a very successful entrepreneur and his work spanned in different locations in the southeast. Not only was his family and friends important to him, but his work meant a lot to him as well. Jim lived life to the fullest and was known as a marvelous story teller. He never shied away from telling you “I love you”. Known for his selfless generosity, Jim, for many years, was a strong supporter of youth sports. He was a member First United Methodist Church of Marion.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 54 years, Joan Nesbitt Hensley of the home; one daughter, Heather Caldwell and her husband, Brett of Marion; and one sister, Kathy McCoy and her husband, Tom of Marion. Jim is also survived by his granddaughter, Kaelyn Caldwell, who was the light of his life; a number of nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Marion with Rev. Warren Owens and Rev. Ashley McCoy-Bruce officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
Flowers are acceptable and appreciated. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Martin Palmeri and the staff of Cancer Care of Western North Carolina in Asheville, nurse navigator, Karen Hicks and the Infusion Team at Mission Hospital-McDowell; and the staff of CarePartners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville for the loving and compassionate care they provided Jim and his family during this time.
