Howard Noel Revis

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Howard Noel Revis, age 80, on February 17, 2025.

Howard was born to Richard and Hattie Tipton Revis from Sugar Hill. He grew up surrounded by a loving family and community that made him the amazing man everyone knew and loved. His childhood friends became lifelong friends who never tired of telling shared stories of days gone by and a life well lived. Howard was quite a storyteller; he loved to recall his dad’s exploits as a young man or dramatize Tannybogus tales to the grandchildren. Howard was one of the last graduates of Marion High School; he and his friends gathered every year to spend time together. After high school, Howard joined the Army, serving his country as a medic in Puerto Rico during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he took up his dad’s trade as a carpenter and home builder. His handiwork lives on in many of the homes he built in McDowell County. He took great joy in doing things for others whether it was helping friends with projects, cutting firewood for family, or beautifying the little church he had come to love so much. In retirement, he loved nothing more than to work outside, build things with his hands, and show off his beautiful flowers. 

Howard is known for his gentle spirit and the love he showed to all who knew him. He made our world a better place. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Richard and Hattie Tipton Revis, sister, Betty Revis Laney, and Martha’s son, Vernon Humphrey. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Martha Sasser Revis, his son Christopher Revis (Stephanie), and Martha’s daughter Kathy Coggin (Greg). The joy of his life were his grandchildren: Morgan Revis, Maddie Revis, Avery Vestal, John Vestal, Amanda Rose, Ashley Horne, Gregory Coggin II and his 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving sister and brother, Jessie Revis Bartlett and Grady Revis (Debbie), and his precious nephews and nieces, Charles Bartlett (Jan), Annette Laney Gentry (Johnny), Michael Bartlett (Janet), Michelle Revis Pittman, Jeff Revis, and Cheri Laney Belt.

A receiving of friends is scheduled for 2:00 pm Sunday, February 23, 2025 at Beam Funeral Home, followed by a 3:00 pm service honoring his memory. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The American Heart Association.
