Howard Curtis, Jr., age 75, of Marion, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Charles George VA Medical Center’s Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Asheville. Born in McDowell County on January 15, 1941, he was the son of the late Howard Curtis, Sr. and Myrtle Newton Rowley.
Howard will be remembered for his sense of humor, ability to be a multi tasker and his capability to restore any type of vehicle. He owned and operated Curtis Auto Upholstery. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Tony Curtis and Charles Rowley.
He is survived by the love of his life, Angela Johnson; his “dad”, Ken Rowley; “mom”, Ellie Curtis Deaton; four children, Cheryl C. Johnson, Michael L. Curtis, Trina C. Jackson (Duane) and Roger E. Curtis (Lisa); three sisters, Pat Boyd (Van), Barbara Jebcoe and Nancy Harrelson (Freddie); five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, also survive.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Coxes Creek Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Miller officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
A committal service will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Florence National Cemetery in Florence, South Carolina. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Curtis Family, 272 Stockton Road, Marion, North Carolina 28752.
