In loving memory, Homer Rumfelt, age 80, of Marion, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday October 14, 2017, at his residence. Born on June 21, 1937, he was the son of the late Marthie Biggerstaff and Joseph Pinkney Rumfelt.
Mr. Rumfelt was a proud US Army veteran where he served as a military police officer. He formally worked for the McDowell County Sheriff's Department and Old Fort Police Department. Mr. Rumfelt was later employed by Carolina Freight and Ingles as a truck driver. He enjoyed tending to his garden and shooting his guns. Mr. Rumfelt loved to talk with his numerous friends, but above all, he loved to spend time with his family.
Mr. Rumfelt, in addition to his parents, was preceded in death by sisters Geneva Patton and Louise Patton, and brothers Ray, Roy, Albert, James, and Ned Rumfelt.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of thirty years, Janice MacRae Morris Rumfelt; two children, Melinda Rumfelt Lytle (John), and Yvette Rumfelt Stanley (Doug); Five stepchildren, Dr. Russell Morris (Wanda), Rhonda Morris Kaylor (Wayne), Kim Morris Mills (Jeff), John Lancaster (Sharon), and Thomas Lancaster (Debra); Six grandchildren, Christina Banks Burdette (John), Steven Banks, Paige Cork (James), Thomas Peters (Patricia), Edward Bumgarner and Stephanie Bumgarner; Five step-grandchildren, Nicole Squires (Brian), Shea Bryan (Mike), Rev. Donald Guffy Jr., Wendy Davis (Johnny), Morgan Pittman (John); A special great grandson, Cameron Crisp, and numerous other great grandchildren also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Rumfelt will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Tyler Nations and Dr. Russell Morris Officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will occur in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
