Hobert J. Burleson

Hobert J. Burleson, age 91, of Marion, NC passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017 at John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville, NC.

Hobert was the son of the late John Nelson Burleson and Pearl Thomas Burleson of Yancey County, NC.  He was a WWII veteran of the US Navy and retired from Air Preheater.  He was also a member of West Court Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon from 1982 until 2009.  Hobert truly loved the Lord, his church and his family.  His main goal in life was to witness to others his love for the Lord and lead them to the Lord. 

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother, Sam Burleson and a sister, Mae Boone.

Left behind to cherish Hobert’s memory are his beloved wife of 71 years, Opal Thomas Burleson; a son, Dennis Burleson (Melissa) of Marion, NC; two daughters, Joan Briggs (Willard) of Taylorsville, NC and Renee McKinney (Dennis) of Spruce Pine, NC; three grandsons, Ryan Burleson (Jennifer), Chris McMahan (Emily) and Josh McKinney (Lindsay); eight great-grandchildren, Elisah, Sylvie and Steel Burleson, Dillion (Melissa), and Brandon McMahan, Abigail Rhymer (Corbin) and Leighton and Olsen McKinney; one great-great-grandchild, Zoey McMahan; and one sister, Tilda Young McKinney.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Monday, November 13, 2017 at West Court Baptist Church.  A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM at the church with Rev. Ross Lewis and Rev. Reid Cooper officiating.  Burial will follow the service at West Court Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staff members of Care Partners Hospice & Palliative Care – McDowell and John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center for the loving care shown to Hobert and his family.
