Herman Arthur Stamper, 74, of Marion, departed this life on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
He was born in Old Landing, Kentucky on December 22, 1950 to the late Larson Stamper and Ada Ashcraft Stamper.
Herman was formerly employed by Murphy Elevator Company, and he served in the United States Army. After he married his wife, Joyce, they fell in love with the mountains of North Carolina and decided to move here together from the Louisville, Kentucky area. They made a number of friends here who became family. He enjoyed gold mining, and he enjoyed spending time at the Lucky Strike Gold Mine where he later made his home. An avid outdoorsman, Herman spent a lot of time hunting and fishing as well. He was a talented musician who played in a number of country, bluegrass, and gospel groups over the years. He came from a large, close-knit family and had close relationships with each of his siblings.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Earl Ashcraft, Harold Lee Stamper, Tracy Stamper, and Larson Stamper, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Marie Stamper; one son, Christopher Stamper (Erin); five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce Gernert.
In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held.
