Henry Davis Kanipe, age 84, of Marion, NC, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at his home.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Summie Kanipe and Nora Bright Kanipe; and his first wife, Wynema Lawing Kanipe.
Henry was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marion and a previous member of West Marion United Methodist Church. He retired from Rexnord in Morganton, NC as a machinist.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Joan Roper Kanipe; son, Patrick Young and wife, Jill Young; one grandson who was his pride and joy, Daniel Young; his sister, Frances Comer of Statesville; nephews, Mark Comer (Susan) of Statesville, Todd Comer (Tracy) of Charlotte, and Chuck Cordell of Pinehurst; and one special niece, Brett Boyd of Marion.
Henry loved his church family and served as PPR Chairman, Finance Secretary, Sunday School Superintendent, and as a trustee during his 30+ years at West Marion Methodist. He sang in the choir and loved to sing with the men’s choir. He served in the U.S. Army. Henry enjoyed outdoor activities in his yard, and he loved tennis. He also was a former marathon runner.
A brief committal service will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Pastor Barbara Boyd Mayo officiating. No formal visitation will be held. Burial will be private at West Marion Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to CenterWell Home Health and Amorem Hospice for the excellent care provided to Henry during his illness.
