Henry Lee Effler, age 71, of Marion, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville with his loving family by his side. A native of McDowell County, North Carolina, born January 26, 1945, he was the son of the late James and Irene Knupp Effler.
Henry was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam. For several years he worked at Old Fort Finishing, but ultimately retired from Ethan Allen. A loving husband, “daddy”, “paw-paw”, brother and friend, in his spare time he enjoyed watching the Washington Redskins, but Henry truly loved spending time with his family, who thought of him as their hero.
Left to cherish his memories is his loving wife of 45 years, Bonita Webb Effler; one daughter, Marie Williams (Ronnie); one son, Travis Effler; five sisters, Sarah Bright, Carolyn Jones, Ollie Effler, Bernice Ewart and Evelyn Young. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Brittany, Haley and Skyler Williams, Matt and Tori Effler; and Jordan Berryhill; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church, where he was a member of, with Rev. Ray Stockton officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
A committal service will be held on Monday, October 31, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, with military honors provided by the United States Army.
