Hazel Louise Rosenbaum Callahan, formally of Marion, a cherished member of her family and community, passed away peacefully at her residence in Myrtle Beach, SC on February 6, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on June 15, 1937, in Bristol, Tennessee, Hazel was known for her unwavering faith and her dedication to her loved ones.
A hard worker throughout her life, Hazel exemplified a spirit of independence and determination. She was a devoted Christian who found great comfort in her faith and loved the Lord deeply. Her unwavering beliefs shaped her character and provided a strong foundation for her family.
Hazel's love for her family was profound, and she took great pride in her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Hooser (Ricky), and her son, Bill Callahan (Lynne). The legacy of her devotion continues with her grandsons: David Cook (Jackie), Robert Cook, Gary Cook (Dawn), Billy Higgins, Richard Hooser (Stephanie), Brian Hooser, Louis Hooser, Jonathan Johnson (Caytee), Matthew Callahan, and Andrew Johnson. Her granddaughters, Sarah Myers and her daughter, CaleeGail, Leslie Powell (John), and Theresa Mari (Nick) along with her twenty two great grandchildren and her 3 great great grandchildren also carry her love and memory forward.
In addition to her living family, Hazel is preceded in death by her father, Joseph Rosenbaum; her mother, Hildred Feathers Smith; and her sister, Peggy Lefler.
Hazel had a passion for reading and was an enthusiastic supporter of Elvis Presley, reflecting her vibrant spirit and ability to find joy in life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed sharing her love for music and stories with her family, enriching their experiences with her energy and warmth.
Her life will be honored at Beam Funeral Service & Crematory in Marion, North Carolina, with a visitation on February 11, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Rev. Denny Wilson will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.
Hazel Louise Rosebaum Callahan leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and hard work that will endure through her family and friends. She will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered by all who were touched by her kindness and spirit.
