Last call for Officer Harold Dean Stockton
Harold Stockton, 78, of Old Fort, departed this world on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. He was surrounded by family and loved ones.
Harold was born June 24, 1945 to the late Johnnie and Cora Lee Stockton of Old Fort. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Stockton, Sr.; and his beautiful daughter, Judie Stockton King.
Harold was a devoted, God-fearing father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle. He was known by many as “Paw.” He loved his family and daughters, and he enjoyed being there for them. He would always light up when his grandsons and great grandchildren were around. Harold always had stories and lessons to tell. He often said, “This life is cruel sometimes but Jesus is the only answer.”
Harold dedicated his career to law enforcement and had specialty training at the Smith and Wesson Academy in Boston, Massachusetts. He served on the Lynchburg Police Department where he had the opportunity to grow through the SWAT Unit, undercover with the Narcotic Unit, and the K-9 Unit. Before retiring, he received a Purple Heart. He always held a special bond with his “Brothers in Blue.”
He is survived by his twin sister, Carol Godfrey; brother, Charles (Evelyn) Stockton; three daughters, Donna Thomas, Alice (Tim) Carroll, and Cristal (Brenda) Stockton; seven grandchildren, Cody Andrews, Lucas Stockton, Travis Kinne, Tyler Carroll, Ashley Jones, Jacob King, and Jeremiah King; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Redeemed Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry McClain and Pastor Casey Stockton officiating. Burial will follow at Cherry Springs Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m.
