On the afternoon of Friday, July 03, 2020, Colonel Harold Dean Saylor, age 75 of the Glenwood community in Marion, unexpectedly departed from this world at his residence. The son of the late John Brown Saylor and Gladys Ruth McMahan Saylor, he was born in Mitchell County on February 17, 1945.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Harold was a proud retired veteran of the United States Army who was distinguished with many medals. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and especially loved fishing, hunting, camping and hiking. Harold was a member of Yancey Street Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion, and also served in the North Carolina National Guard. A caring soul, he will be missed deeply by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Martin, and Sheila Murphy.
Left behind to cherish his precious memories are his loving wife, Elizabeth Taylor Saylor; four children, Chet Saylor (Terri), Marie Clauson, Brenda Thomason, and Susan Bristol (Ray); one brother, Reverend Jimmy Saylor (Betty), and one sister, Sharon Greene (Tommy). He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Tyler, Jacob, Erica, Corey, Victoria, and Tiffany.
A funeral service to celebrate Harold’s life will be held on Thursday, July 09, 2020, at 11:00 A.M at Yancey Street Baptist Church with Reverend Dean Owenby officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., one hour prior to the service at the Church. Interment will follow the service at Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery.
