Harold Parks McKinney, 85 of Nebo passed away Friday, December 8, 2023, at his home with his loving family by his side.
A native of Little Switzerland, Harold was born September 3, 1938, to his late parents,
Vera McKinney and Ruby Turner McKinney. In addition to his parents, Harold is preceded in death by Donna his loving wife of 60 years, a brother (Jeffery "Jeff" McKinney), and a son-in-law (Kyle Ledbetter).
A veteran of the United States Army, Harold served his country at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he met his wife, Donna. He also served his Lord and Savior in many capacities throughout his life. He had a love for music, singing, and served as choir director of Dysartsville Baptist Church for numerous years. Harold loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Cane Creek Baptist Church where he attended with his daughter, Maria. He loved to listen to her play the piano and share his love of directing music.
Harold also had a passion for farming and agriculture from an early age. He and his brother David opened a dairy farm here in McDowell County in 1964. The farm has held many special memories for his family and community for many years. Harold passed his love of farming to his son, Michael who continues to operate the farm today.
He is survived by two daughters, Maria Ledbetter (Tommy) and Maureen Tipton (Donnie); a son, Michael McKinney (Janice); a sister, Sharon Godfrey; two brothers, David McKinney (Diane) and Tommy McKinney (Brenda); nine grandchildren, Nathaniel Ledbetter, Joshua Ledbetter, Jimmy Huskins (Chelsea), Megan Huskins (Melvin), Kaitlyn McKinney (Jordan), Daniel McKinney, Jacob McKinney, Brianna Blake (Daniel), and Matthew Tipton; thirteen great grandchildren, Colbry, Farmer, Kamiryn, Aamiyah, Kora, Ameliah, Olivia, Jack, Lyla, Zayden, Brylie, Charlotte, and William; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Cane Creek Baptist Church in Union Mills. Rev. Danny Camp will officiate and Mr. Stacy Buff will assist. Burial will follow at Cane Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the Church.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Home Health, Hospice, and the many others who helped care for Harold and the family during this difficult time. Thank you to those who traveled to visit, brought meals, sent cards, called, and most importantly prayed. The out pouring of love and kindness has been greatly appreciated.
