Gustav "Gus" Wandelt

Gustav “Gus” Wandelt, age 81 of Marion, North Carolina, formerly of Glen Cove, New York passed away peacefully in his sleep after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, September 23, 2018.

Beloved husband of Christa Wandelt. Devoted father of Susann (Tony) Tripp, William (Debbie) Wandelt. His greatest joy was being Opi to Laura (Michael) Hallquest, Stacie (Justin) Valeo, Liam and Declan and loving Opa of Emily and Nicholas Hallquest and Uncle of Karl (MaryAnne) Kowalzik, Daniel and Holly. Special friends Sandra and Joe Merolla, Carol Goforth and family and all of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church family.

Gus was born in Germany on August 3, 1937. Gus and Christa immigrated to America with their infant daughter Susann in May of 1960. They settled on Long Island, New York where later they welcomed their son Billy. This past August 16, Gus and Christa were married 60 wonderful years.

Gus was an avid fan of soccer and hockey with the Islanders being his favorite team. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, but most of all he loved his family and spending time with friends. Gus was one in a million and will be sorely missed by many that knew him.

Words of comfort can be shared with the family at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church Saturday, September 29 2018 from 1:00 P.M. till 2:00 P.M. with the memorial service to follow at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Kim Clardy officiating.
