Gordon Godfrey

Gordon Godfrey, age 75, of Marion passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at his residence.  A son of the late James Godfrey and Lyda Howell Godfrey, he was born on April 21, 1941.  Mr. Godfrey was formally employed with Etta Packaging and Old Fort Finishing.  He also worked for Walmart where he enjoyed greeting customers.  Mr. Godfrey was a Vietnam Veteran having served the United States Marine Corps and enjoyed wood working in his spare time.  He will be remembered as loving father and grandfather.

Mr. Godfrey was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amada Doyle.

Mr. Godfrey is survived by his wife of 52 years, Brenda Owensby Godfrey;  two daughters, Lisa  Doyle and Sandy Cothern (Gus); a sister, Polly Watson; two grandchildren, Matthew Doyle and Sarah Cothern.

A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Godfrey’s life will be held Monday, March 20, 2017, at 3:00 PM  in the chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Mitch Wilson officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the funeral hour.  Interment with military honors will follow in McDowell Memorial Park.
