Glinnie Hazel Childers

July 23, 1934 — October 5, 2018

 

On the morning of Friday, October 5, 2018, Glinnie Hazel Shell Childers, age 84, of Gaffney, South Carolina, passed away at the SECU Inpatient Unit while under the care of Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.  Hazel’s loving family was by her side.  A native of Cherokee County, South Carolina, born July 23, 1934, she was the daughter of the late London and Edna Shehand Shell. 

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Roland Pittman Childers; two sons, Danny Ray Childers and Joe Dean Childers; and one brother, London Eugene Shell.

 

Hazel enjoyed going to dirt track races, but most all, she loved spending quality time with her family and friends.

 

Hazel is survived by five children, Johnny Childers of Union Mills, North Carolina, Shirley Bailey of Union Mills, North Carolina, David Lee Childers, Sr. of Gaffney, South Carolina, Kenneth Eugene Childers of Gaffney, South Carolina and Bobby De’ wang Childers of Gaffney, South Carolina; two sisters, Mary Ruth White of Gaffney, South Carolina and Minnie Bell Mullnax of Gaffney, South Carolina; ten grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain Creek Baptist Church in Rutherfordton.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
