Glennis Ella Sue Nanney

Glennis Thomas Nanney, age 84, of Marion, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at her residence. A native of Madison County, Glennis was born on September 10, 1934 to the late Emmitt and Ruby Payne Thomas.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Nanney; one son, Ronald Nanney; one granddaughter, Sydney Nanney and one grandson Ronnie Nanney.

Glennis was a wonderful homemaker, and her family was her entire life. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed word search puzzles and was a wonderful cook. Glennis will be truly missed by all that knew her.

Those left behind to cherish Glennis’ memories are her children, Gary Nanney, Betty Nanney Honeycutt (Gary), Herbert Nanney (Janet), Larry Nanney, Jan Boone (Daniel), Kathy Boone, Billy Nanney, Angie McClellan (Kerry), Steve Nanney, Rieda Nanney (David), Gerald Nanney (Gwen), Becky McKinney, Jason Nanney (Kim) and Jonathan Nanney (Carrie); two sisters, Irene Davis and Peggy Nanney; and one brother, Eugene Thomas. Also surviving Glennis are thirty-four grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Yancey Street Baptist Church   A funeral service to celebrate Glennis’ life will take place on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the church with Reverend Charles Adkins officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church.
