Gladys Johnson

Gladys Koone Johnson, age 98, of Marion, passed away Wednesday March 9, 2016 at her residence.  Her loving family was by her side.  Born in Yancey County, North Carolina on March 25, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Clayton and Laura Young Harris.  A loving, precious mother and grandmother, Gladys loved working in her vegetable garden.  She was a member of Marion Seventh-day Adventist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Grover Cleveland Koone; second husband, Clarence “Doc” Johnson; one son, Donald Koone; one grandson, Alan Koone and one great granddaughter, Hartley Mace.

Gladys is survived by three sons, Joe Koone, Charles Koone (Chris) and Bob Koone (Mary); six grandchildren, Cindi Rose, Heather Weisz, Alisa Gosnell, Chuck Koone, Chad Koone and Cindy Walker; twelve great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service to honor the life of Gladys will be held Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Marion Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Ron Davis officiating.  Interment will follow at Pete Young Cemetery in Yancey County.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
