Gladys Helms

Gladys Moody Helms, age 93, of Marion, NC went to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Rose Hill Retirement Community.

Mrs. Helms was born April 7, 1924 in Clay County, NC to the late Carl and Nancy Elizabeth Caldwell Moody.  She retired from Marion Manufacturing after 30 years of service and was a member of East Marion Baptist Church for over 70 years.  Her hobbies included working in her yard with her trees and flowers and sewing.  She was a super cook and will be remembered for her fried chicken and coconut cake.  Everyone was welcome in her home and no one left hungry.  Mrs. Helms especially loved her family and she would light up at the mention of their names.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Helms; three brothers, Carl Moody, Leonard Moody and Hobert Moody; and three sisters, Juanita Miller, Faye Clontz and Viola Volrath.

Left behind to cherish her memories are four children, Teresa Hodge, Carla Anderson (Charles), Beth Long (Dion) and Kevin Helms (Kim); five grandchildren, Chris Hodge, Charity Anderson, Britt Helms, Cody Helms and Joshua Gallion; three great-grandchildren, Eli Anderson, Stella Gallion and Hunter Hodge; one sister, Roberta Neighbors; and a dear friend who is also considered a family member, Robbie McFalls.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Beam Funeral Service & Crematory.  A Graveside Service will follow  at 3:00 PM at McDowell Memorial Park with Rev. Jeff Hall officiating.
