Gerald Dowdle, age 63, of the Glenwood Community, wonderful husband, father and papa, passed away unexpectedly, following several years of declining health on Sunday, January 08, 2017 at his residence. Born in McDowell County, North Carolina on February 15, 1953, he was the son of the late David and Carrie Owens Dowdle.
Following 35 years of service, Gerald retired from Pike Electric Company. In his spare time, he enjoyed working in his garage on muscle cars, particularly his camaro's. He was a member of Glenwood Independent Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years, Barbara “Bebe” Dowdle, who passed away July 25, 2014.
Gerald is survived by two children, Kristin Dowdle Bollinger (Scott) and Clay Dowdle (Jennifer); seven siblings, Gaynell Bailey, Joe Owens, Wade McGraw, Lilla Mae “Kitty” McGraw, Vivian Lowman, Bill Dowdle and Donnie Dowdle; four grandchildren, Ayden Bollinger, Lincoln Bollinger, Grayson Dowdle and Addley Dowdle; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service, Rutherford Road, Marion. A celebration of life will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Glenwood Independent Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Gentry officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
