George Arthur Band

George Arthur Band, of Marion, NC and originally from Trinidad and Tobago, entered into the presence of the Lord on Monday February 22, 2021 at the age of 78. For the past five years George bravely fought a battle with cancer and renal disease.

Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on November 17, 1942 to the late Doris (Band) Wong and Ernest Oliver Band, George and his immediate family moved to Marion in March of 1979. From very humble beginnings as an immigrant to the United States, George started a TV and satellite business in Marion soon after his move, which he ran and operated on East Court Street until 1996 when he suffered a serious stroke.

Even after his stroke, George was still able to live on his own. He was a determined man with a great deal of perseverance. He always remained so positive throughout all he went through. George was known for his generosity, his great sense of humor, and his wonderful laugh. He was friendly to all people. He always had a heart of thankfulness and would never ask for much. Even up until his last moments, he endeared the nursing staff at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center with his kindness.

George was a loving father to his three children, Anne-Marie, Philip, and Christine who also loved him dearly. He was loved and appreciated by his grandchildren, Elizabeth, India, Tareea, Hayden, Riley, and Ian as well as his great grandchildren Ariana, Tristan and Charlotte. Additionally, he had a special lady, Tonya, who loved him greatly and helped him for years. His memory will remain in all of our hearts until we see him again.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service & Crematory.
