George Howard Austin

     George Howard Austin, 78, of Nebo, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022, at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville.

     Mr. Austin was born in McDowell County, NC on May 31, 1944, to the late Frank Austin and Louise Biggerstaff Austin. He proudly served in the U.S. Army National Guard. Mr. Austin loved horses and other animals, especially hounds. Most of all, he was a loving father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Beauluh Lusk; and three brothers, James, Buddy, and Butch Austin.

     He is survived by a son, Geoffrey Austin (Margo Hale); a brother, Jackie Austin; and two very special grandchildren, whom he loved as his own, Haley and Allyson Boram.

     In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held. Interment will be at McDowell Memorial Park.

     The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to his brother, Jackie Austin; his best nephew ever, Billy Austin; and the staff at Deer Park Health & Rehabilitation for the care they provided.

     In lieu of flowers, one of Mr. Austin’s final wishes were that you spend time with your family.
