Geneva Mae Moore Johnson, 100, of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2022 at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center.
She was born on March 25, 1922 to the late Will and Cora Melton Moore in McDowell County.
Geneva was the last charter member of Old Fort Free Will Baptist Church. For many years, she sang with her sisters in churches throughout the county. She will be remembered as a good, faithful, and loving Christian woman. Geneva was a member of the Old Fort High School basketball team and played in the gym at the school the very first game. She enjoyed reading, eating, and working with her flowers and in her yard even in her later years. She worked at Kearfott for many years. Geneva was always first to help anyone she could. She leaves behind an incredible legacy that will last for years to come.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jobie Johnson, Jr.; two children, Carl Douglas Johnson and Brenda Williams (John David Williams); seven siblings, JC Moore, Paul Moore, Ott Moore, Janie Hughes, Irene Chrisawn, Ada Frady, and Naomi Crisp; and a great grandson, John Mark Williams.
She leaves behind three sons, Bobby Jack Johnson (Carolyn Gay Johnson), Richard K. Johnson (Kathryn Johnson), and Roger A. Johnson (Brenda Johnson); eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; fifteen great great grandchildren; one brother, Lester Moore (Bernice Moore); a special friend, Carolyn Slagle; and her roommate and friend, Thelma Trent.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 02, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Old Fort Free Will Baptist Church with Revs. Lattie Slagle, Vincent White, and Stanley Willet officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Green Knob Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mountain Ridge for the outstanding care provided to Geneva the last four years.
