Gary Douglas Cooper

Gary Douglas Cooper, 79, of Morganton, passed away at his residence on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

Gary was born on May 9, 1945 in Burke County to Rev. Clifton Cooper and Lula Mae Shidal Cooper who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Verna Lee Deal, Clifford Cooper, Darby Cooper, Mozelle Evans, Jack Cooper, Paul Cooper and Barbara Norton.

Gary was very proud of his family who loved him dearly. He was an outdoorsman who loved living in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina which provided him with the opportunity to enjoy one of his favorite pastimes, fishing. Gary was known as a hard worker who enjoyed building things by hand. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. 

Surviving Gary are his wife of thirty-two years, Jane Franklin Cooper; three children, Amy Cooper Walsh (Ed) of Nebo, Annette Cooper (Tammy) of Johnson City, TN., and Jennifer Cooper Fogarty (Patrick) of Taylors SC.; a sister, Ruth Cooper Radford (Don) of Nebo and four grandchildren, Capt. Patrick Cooper Walsh M.D. and his fiancé Dr. Britney Harper, Jonathan Walsh (Lovely Lo), Christopher Douglas Fogarty and Catherine Fogarty. He was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to say a special thank you to all of his caregivers including Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

Drop in for a celebration of life on November 16, 2024, between 1pm and 4pm at Heavenly view Venue, 1661 Jamestown Road, Morganton, NC 28655. A light meal will be served.
