Frances Wilson Harris

Mary Frances Wilson Harris, 85, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on the morning of Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the Mitchell House in Spruce Pine. She passed peacefully after battling several sicknesses.

She was born August 31, 1938 to the late Elbert Washington Wilson and Macie Smith Wilson and was raised in McDowell County.

Frances retired from McDowell County Schools where she served as a Teacher’s Assistant and a School Bus Driver. She spent most of her career at Nebo Elementary School and was well thought of by the staff and students alike. She was a lifelong member of the Marion Church of Christ where she remained active as long as her health allowed. Frances was a scout leader for a number of years as well, and she will be remembered as an excellent cook. She was married to the late Tom Harris. They met in the first grade and remained together until his death in 2014. Frances was very proud of him and missed him dearly.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Charles Wilson, Don Wilson (Bobbie), and Barbara Walker; a grandson, TJ Harris; and a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Wilson.

She is survived by five children, Donna Harris, Jeff Wilson, Debbie Terrell (Duane), Tommy Harris, Jr., and Chris Harris (Julie); nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one brother-in-law, David Walker.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 31, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Mr. Chet Effler speaking. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Burial will be private at McDowell Memorial Park at a later date.
