On the morning of Monday, May 25, 2020, Mrs. Frances Ruth Elliott Carpenter, age 80 of Nebo, departed to take her heavenly flight home during her stay at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in Forest City. The daughter of the late Roy James Elliott and Ruby Byrd Elliott, she was born in Yancey County on Christmas day, December 25, 1939.
A member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Frances was a devout Christian having served her Lord faithfully. She retired from Washington Mills, and enjoyed family gatherings of all kinds. One of her favorite things in life was being able to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Frances could never be seen without a loving smile. She was a dear friend to many and a beloved matriarch of her family and will be missed deeply.
Left to cherish her precious memories are her beloved husband, Joe Carpenter; four children, Darlene Bixby (Dana), Carolyn Whitehead (Keith McCall), Darrell Carpenter (Patricia), and Rita Gallion (David). She also leaves behind her seven grandchildren, as well as her twelve precious great grandchildren.
A graveside service to celebrate Frances’ life will be held on Friday, May 29, 2020, at the Byrd’s Cemetery in Yancey County at 11:00 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory can be made to Hospice of Carolina Foothills; 374 Hudlow Road, Forest City, North Carolina 28043
