Emmett Wilson

January 3, 1925 — December 6, 2018

 

Emmett Wilson, age 93, of Forest City, North Carolina, passed away at his home on Thursday, December 6, 2018 and into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born on January 3, 1925 in Yancey County to the late Ed and Julia Murphy Wilson.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Walter, Ransom and Edward Wilson; three sisters, Marjorie Berryhill, Georgia Shuford and Joyce Wilson.  Emmett was also preceded in death by his son, Wayne Wilson, who passed away in September of this year.

 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 69 years, Wanda Geouge Wilson of Forest City; a daughter, Avis Finley (Terrell) of Marion; daughter-in-law, Linda Wilson of Forest City; four grandchildren, Heather Libera (David) of Forest City, Kari Wilson and fiancé, Taylor Arter of Spartanburg, Zane Finley and girlfriend, Rebecca Felts of Morganton and Cole Finley of Marion.  He is also survived by four great grandchildren, Glenn and Julia Earley and Max and Erik Libera, all of Forest City.

 

Mr. Wilson is a WWII veteran of the United States Army.  He retired after 32 years of service with Home Security Life Insurance Company.  He also worked as a radio announcer at WMIT at Mt. Mitchell in the 1940’s.  Mr. Wilson loved fishing and he and his family spent many years camping on Lake James.  He never met a stranger and spoke to everyone he met.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Forest City for sixty-four years and served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher, and in the Brotherhood. 

 

A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, December 16, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service in Marion with Rev. Dennis Love officiating.  The family will recieve friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. one hour prior to the service.

The family wishes to thank special caregivers, Christi Hill, Jean Ledford and Helen Miller.  Also, thanks to Roger Iwerks for the faithful yard work. Thanks to White Oak Manor, Encompass Home Health and Hospice of the Carolina Foothills for the care provided to Mr. Wilson during his illness.
