Emma Pauline "Polly" Godfrey Watson

Emma “Polly” Watson, 92, of Nebo, passed away on Monday, August 05, 2024 at CarePartners Solace Center in Buncombe County. 

Polly was born in Bowling Greene, KY on February 22, 1932 to James Godfrey and Lyda Howell Godfrey who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Leo Watson, Sr. and her siblings, Gordon Godfrey, James Godfrey and Dee Isabelle.

Polly was a longtime member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church where she served as an early age Sunday school teacher. She loved her church family immensely. “It’s because of Aunt Polly so many know Jesus.” Some of the things she enjoyed most were tending to her flowers, gardening and canning. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving Polly are her two children, Hugh Leo Watson, Jr. (Emma) and Douglas Cline Watson (Debbie); four grandchildren, Anthony Watson, Drew Watson (Logan), Travis Watson and Avery Watson and one great grandson, Henry Watson. 

The family will receive friends in the chapel of Beam Funeral Service on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 p.m. A funeral service to honor Polly will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Harmony Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Freddy Williams officiating the service. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.
