Gail Whittington Eller, age 57, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care with her loving family by her side. She was born in Yancey County on March 31, 1960 to the late Hiram Whittington and Genevive Edwards Whittington.
In addition to her father, Gail is preceded in death by her two brothers, Michael Edwards and Jerry Whittington.
Gail was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church where she was very involved in the youth department for over twenty five years. She was a registered nurse and taught nursing at McDowell Technical Community College. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends.
In addition to her mother Genevive, Gail is survived by her husband of thirty nine years, Mark Eller; three children, Chris Eller (Jennie), Bobby Eller (Molly) and Leslie Freeman (James); and one brother, Jeff Whittington. Also surviving Gail are ten grandchildren, Anna, Azi, Tanner, Kayleigh, Michala, Joe, Andrew Addie, Sara and Marc; and two nephews, Mark and Daniel Whittington.
A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Eller on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church with Reverends Kim Clardy and David Hawkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. one hour prior to the service at the church.
