Elna Magdalene Chapman

January 5, 1923 — April 27, 2018

Mrs. Elna Ogle Chapman, age 95, of Swannanoa North Carolina went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Friday, April 27, 2018 at Asheville Health Care. Born in Yancy County North Carolina on January 5, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Elzie Hilliard Ogle, and Elsie Roland Ogle. She was also preceded in death by her husband of seventy-four years, Luther Ellis “Eck” Chapman who passed away on October 17, 2017, and a son, Jerry Ellis Chapman.

 

A very dedicated member of Grassy Branch Baptist Church, Mrs. Chapman was the oldest member. Elna retired from Kearfott Corporation in Black Mountain. An avid gardener, she enjoyed working with her flowers, loved canning and cooking, but most of all, she loved spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

 

Left to cherish her memories, her son, Tommy Lee Chapman and his wife, Pam of Marion; A brother, Brooke Ogle, of Asheville; Eight grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A service to celebrate Mrs. Chapmans life will be held on Tuesday May 1, 2018, at 12:00 p.m. at Grassy Branch Baptist Church, 499 Riceville Road, Asheville with Dr. Tom Walker and Rev. Ken Sausedo officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.

 

Interment will be by her husband at the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain following the service.
