Ellen Allison, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at her daughters’ residence in Old Fort with her loving family at her side. The daughter of the late Allen and Lola Biddix Thomas, she was born in McDowell County, North Carolina on April 18, 1933.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Allison (May 10, 2005); two sons, Ronnie and Roger Allison; one brother, Clyde Whitesides; and two sisters, Mae Monteith and Harriett Morris.
Ellen had worked at Parker Hosiery Mill in Old Fort for over 30 years. An avid antique collector, she enjoyed traveling, cross word puzzles and sitting on her front porch. She was a member of Old Fort Free Will Baptist Church.
She is survived by her ten children, Vivian Oliver (Charles), Chuck Allison (Cindy), Sandra Allison, Abbie Jordan (Buster), Ramona Pack (James), Greg Allison (Lori), Jeff Allison, Stewart Allison (Angela), Kim Martin (Gray) and Chris Allison (Tracey); twenty-eight grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Old Fort Free Will Baptist Church with Brother Johnny Chastain and Brother Buster Jordan officiating. Interment will follow at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
