Elizabeth Hennessee Poteat, 80, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at her residence, surrounded by her family.
She was born in McDowell County on August 13, 1941 to the late Wade Hampton Hennessee, Jr. “Bud” and Gladys Young Hennessee “Dutch.”
Elizabeth was an excellent cook and a talented musician who played the piano, organ, and dulcimer. She was an avid gardener and a lover of flowers and birds. She was involved with the Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department and often cooked for their fundraising efforts. She had a wicked sense of humor and a very distinct laugh that everyone will remember.
She was also a sports fanatic who enjoyed sports of all kinds. A staunch Democrat, she was the secretary at one time for the McDowell County Democratic Party. Mrs. Poteat was a granny to everyone, and she was certainly the best one of them all.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Neal Poteat; and one son, Mike Poteat.
Left to cherish her memories are one son, Bernard Shawn Poteat (Anne); three grandchildren, Taylor Poteat, Jake Poteat, and Kristen White; three great grandchildren, Canaan White, Carson White, and Reagan Poteat; and her beloved dogs, Heidi and Little Bit.
