Edward “Eddie” Ervin Self, 61, of Marion, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024 at his residence.
He was born in Spruce Pine on May 12, 1962 to Earlene Hall Self Buchanan and the late Bobby Jones Self.
Eddie worked for nearly 40 years as a Project Structural Engineer primarily with North Carolina Department of Transportation. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a faithful supporter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Most recently, he spent time teaching his family how to fly fish. He was a talented builder, and with the help of his late father he built the home he lived in for the last 30 years of his life. Eddie will be remembered as a kind-hearted and generous man with his giving. He will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by his mother, Earlene Buchanan (Scott); his wife of 36 years, Tammy Elliott Self; two sons, Edward “Chantz” Self (Lillian Nadal) and Colton Self; his sister, Becky Jenkins (Larry Laws); and two nephews, Luke Jenkins and Bobby Jenkins.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Pastor Gene Self officiating. Burial will follow at Burnette Cemetery in Little Switzerland.
