Edna Ethel Sparks

In the morning hours of Tuesday, March 12, 2019, Edna Young Sparks, age 80, of Bakersville, North Carolina went home to be with the Lord at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine. A native of Mitchell County, Edna was born on June 27, 1938 to the late Arnold and Mollie McKinney Young.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil Sparks, Jr.; her second husband, Homer Greene and four brothers, Eugene Young, Emmett Young, Everett Young and Elmo Young.

Edna was a member of Cane Creek Baptist Church in Bakersville, North Carolina, was an avid reader and enjoyed word puzzles. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Besides Jesus, family was her life especially her grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memories are three children, Richard Sparks (Teresa), Pam Robinson (Terry) and Bobbie Sue Ward (Dean); five grandchildren, T.J. Robinson (Amanda), Monica Robbins (Tony), Mollie Sparks, Matt Ward (Amy) and Michelle Smith (Shanon). Also surviving Edna are five great-grandchildren, Elijah Smith, Linsie Smith, Gavin Southard, Maddie Southard and Holden Robbins and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Edna will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Cane Creek Baptist Church with Reverends T.J. Robinson, Terry Robinson and Lonnie McClellan. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Mine Creek Cemetery in Bakersville, North Carolina.
