Edgar Lee Silver, age 92, of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina and formally of Old Fort, departed to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at his residence with his loving family by his side. The son of the late Virgil Silver and Sally Noblitt Silver, he was born in McDowell County, North Carolina on August 30, 1927.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Faye B. Silver, who passed away January 21, 2018; one brother, Kermit Silver; and two sisters, Helen Frye and Peggy Davis.
Lee, following many years, retired as a department manager from Old Fort Finishing. Having had a love for the Lord, he was a charter member, former church treasurer and deacon at Friendship Baptist Church in Old Fort. Lee loved reading his Bible, anything with Westerns and doing jig saw puzzles. A veteran of the United States Navy, he served during WWII.
He is survived by one son, Lynn Silver and his wife, Marcia; three sisters, Madge Bivins, Jeanne Collier and Shirley Sierra; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Roy and Billie Moore.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Old Fort with Rev. Ernest Harris and Rev. Coy Jeans officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the United States Navy, will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
