Earl Edward Vaughn, age 89, of Nebo, went home to be with the Lord, where he is singing “where the roses never fade”, on Saturday, October 08, 2016 at the McDowell Hospital. The son of the late John and Ethel White Vaughn, he was born in McDowell County, North Carolina on November 02, 1926.
Earl, who loved to sing, was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Philippines. In 1977, as the result of a tragic accident, he became paralyzed, but Earl never thought of himself as disabled, always had a positive attitude and with a smile on his face. He was a member of Rocky Pass Free Will Baptist Church where at times would lead the choir; and enjoyed teaching Sunday school in many nursing facilities.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Beatrice Williams Vaughn who passed away November 28, 2010.
He is survived by one son, Larry E. Vaughn (Pat); two grandsons, Chris Vaughn (Missy); and Robbie Vaughn (Amy); and four great grandchildren, Chloe, Hayden, Emma and Maggie Vaughn.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Rocky Pass Free Will Baptist Church with Revs. Alan Sailors and Bobby Sheehan officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the United States Army, will follow at Ridgeway Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at Rocky Pass Free Will Baptist Church.
