Douglas Jack Gardner

Douglas Jack Gardner, age 68, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 23, 2021, at his residence. He was born in McDowell County on March 27, 1953, to Marjorie Styles Gardner and the late Lawrence Jack Gardner.

Doug was a proud US Navy Veteran. He started his career at Marion Correctional Institute and later retired from Avery/Mitchell Correctional Institute, after 23 years of service. He was an avid Carolina basketball fan and enjoyed watching movies. Doug loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley McKinney Gardner.

Left here to cherish Doug’s memory is his mother, Marjorie Styles Gardner; his children, Jason Gardner (Mandi) and Sara Gardner; one sister, Diane Brewer (Tommy) and four grandchildren, Kassidy Zuniga (Jose), Kobe Wiggins, Eli Wiggins and Yonah Gardner.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.
