Douglas "Dougan" (Dog) Helms, Jr.

Douglas “Dougan” (Dog) Helms, Jr., age 55, of the Glenwood Community, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville.  A native of McDowell County, North Carolina, born on August 26, 1964, he was the son of the late Douglas R. Helms and Ruth Hawkins Moore.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Helms.

An avid sportsman and fisherman, Dougan was a sociable man who met many friends along the way. Having loved listening to music, he truly loved spending quality time with his family.  

He is survived by one daughter, Kristen Helms (Zachary Reagan); five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Maddie, Nate, Sky and Cash; six siblings, Robin Helms (Sharon), Tony Helms (Rhonda), David Helms (Ann Giles), Darrell Helms (Kim), Wendy Gibson (Mike) and Heath Helms (Anna); a number of nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

A celebration of Dougan’s life will be held on Monday, November 04, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Pastor Bill Mitchell officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
