On the morning of Tuesday, May 3, 2022, Douglas Fred Banks passed away at his residence with his loving family by his side. A native of McDowell County, Douglas was born on May 7, 1942 to the late Arlond and Pearl Woodby Banks.
Douglas retired from Great Lakes Carbon following thirty-eight years of service. He loved his cars, whether he was buying, selling or just working on them. He mostly loved his family especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his companion of thirty-six years, Louise Williams; former spouse, Lydia Banks; five children, Sherry Banks (Doug), Nancy McKinney (Johnny), Tina Davis (Steve), Lisa Lanning (Ronnie) and Stacy Banks; stepson, Rusty Morris (Will); one sister, Shirley McCoyle (Bill) and one nephew, Todd McCoyle (Sherri). Also surviving Douglas are four grandchildren, Joshua Rumfelt, Brittany Petro, Brooke McKinney Forbes and Jake McKinney; five great-grandchildren, Breigh Stewart, Brycan Stewart, Aria Petro, Eros Petro, Bayli Jimison and his best friend of sixty-three years, Harry Hess.
A funeral service will take place on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Nebo First Baptist Church with Reverend Doug Worley officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Nebo First Baptist Church Cemetery.
