Dorothy Marie McConnell

On January 26, 2024, Dorothy Marie Richardson McConnell born in New Castle, Pennsylvania, passed away at age 78 in Morganton, NC. She passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s surrounded by her loved ones.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 59 years, Douglas Michael McConnell of Morganton, NC. A daughter, Dorraine McConnell Hernandez and husband Carlos A. Hernandez of Morganton, NC, son, Douglas Michael McConnell, Jr. and wife Desirae McConnell of Mesa, AZ, daughter, Denise McConnell of Morganton, NC, son, Dustin McConnell and wife Isis McConnell of Gilbert, AZ, and son, Lafyon O’Donnell of Springfield, MA. She is further survived by 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Thelma Richardson of New Castle, PA, a sister, Shirley Johns of New Castle, PA, and granddaughter, Christina Hernandez of Morganton, NC.

Dorothy graduated from New Castle High School in Pennsylvania in 1963. She graduated from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, with a Master’s Degree in Life Span Care and Administration. After graduating, she worked with elderly, families, and children and was a loving foster parent to many children.

Beam Funeral Service and Crematory in Marion, NC, is assisting the family with final arrangements. A small private service will be held at a future date.
